Still out of season, but the island starts moving. Resort infrastructure is shut, the coast is closed, and Skiathos is running on its winter population of roughly 5,000 people.
25 March is the one date worth building a trip around. It is Greek Independence Day, a national holiday, and it coincides with the feast of the Evangelistria monastery, the island's most important religious site. We have one source for the monastery feast, so confirm locally before you travel for it.
Greek Easter moves and is usually later than Western Easter. When it falls in late March it pulls the reopening forward, because Easter is the practical trigger for the season rather than any fixed date. In most years April is when hotels start reopening, partially.
International charter flights have not resumed, so March is domestic flights and the year-round ferries. The island bus season does not open until 1 May. Beach bars, sunbeds and boat trips are shut.
