As January. Resort infrastructure is shut, and the island runs on its winter population of roughly 5,000 people around the old harbour. Shops open for a few hours in the late afternoon, which catches visitors out.
Supermarkets run reduced hours. Some tavernas open every day, and the seafront kafenia keep going through the winter. The asymmetry to plan around is that an evening meal is easy to find and breakfast is hard.
International charter flights are still finished for the winter, so February is domestic flights and the year-round ferries only. The island bus season does not open until 1 May, and the season proper does not begin until mid-May. Beach bars, sunbeds, watersports and boat trips are all shut.
Greek Easter can fall as early as late March, and April is when hotels start reopening. February sits on the wrong side of that line.
Crowds: Empty. Prices: Cheapest accommodation of the year.
