Skiathos Town holds the densest concentration of restaurants on the island: 43 establishments in a town you can walk across in fifteen minutes, from €3 gyros counters to the most ambitious kitchens in the Sporades.
The town divides into four eating zones. The Old Port waterfront is a row of seafood tavernas facing the fishing boats. The Old Port steps, climbing away from the water under plane trees, is the prettiest part of town. Papadiamantis and its side streets hold the cheap eats and, on Evangelistrias Street, the fine-dining row. The heights — Plakes and the hillside — trade a climb for a view.
The rule of thumb is reliable: altitude correlates with both the quality of the outlook and the size of the bill. For the full breakdown including category winners and where the rating platforms contradict each other, see the Skiathos Town report.

Where each of these streets is
A sketch, not a map. The Bourtzi is the landmark everything else is described from: the old port west of it, the new port east of it.

The hilltop taverna locals name first when you ask where to take someone on their last night. Huge view, genuinely good cooking, prices that have not been inflated to match the panorama.
Contemporary Mediterranean tapas overlooking the old port. Small plates, a serious wine list, and some of the most consistently enthusiastic service reviews on the island.
A raised terrace over the old port with the Bourtzi in front of you and a kitchen that can actually cook seafood. The best all-round scores on the island right now.
Tables in a cobbled side street under an old mulberry tree, strung lights overhead, live Greek music every evening and dancing after. The full romantic taverna cliché, done sincerely.
The best breakfast in Skiathos Town, one quiet street above the Papadiamantis crush. Excellent coffee, generous plates, and prices that have not noticed the tourists.
A proper tsipouradiko — small plates, tsipouro, no theatre. Named for the only well in the area with drinkable water. The locals' pick, and it shows in the value.
A fish taverna literally on the water's edge, looking across to the Bourtzi. Busy with locals as well as visitors, which is the compliment that matters.
Contemporary Italian on the Old Port steps facing the Bourtzi, run by Lorenzo and Anastasia since 2005. One of the most consistently rated restaurants in town.
A smarter take on the traditional taverna, on a narrow cobbled street with tables under tree-strung lights — and house wine from the owners' own vineyard.
Open since 1975 and arguably the island's original fine-dining Greek restaurant. A stone's throw from the water, ranked third of nearly 300 restaurants in town.
Family-run since 1923 — the oldest taverna on Skiathos, now in the hands of the founder's grandson and great-grandson. In the historic Plakes district, and very popular with locals.
A family taverna in a quiet alleyway behind the harbour, run by Nikos and family. Fresh seafood, oven dishes and one of the town's better-kept secrets.
An 1880s windmill converted into a multi-terrace restaurant at one of the highest points in town. Among the oldest buildings on the island, and it looks it in the best way.
Homemade Italian in a courtyard shaded by a huge mulberry tree, walls covered in murals. Generous portions, proper pizza, and one of the island's best gluten-free offerings.
Tall columns and an unapologetically ancient-Greek theme that could have been naff and instead comes off classy and warm. Solid cooking behind the concept.
Open 6:30am to 2:30am in the heart of the new port. Ranked #19 in town, and the most accommodating kitchen on the island for gluten-free and vegan diners.
4.8 across more than two thousand reviews — one of the highest-volume, highest-rated kitchens on the island, and almost entirely absent from the English-language guides.
A stylish deli-meets-restaurant-meets-coffee-shop, recently rebranded from Ergon Mezedopoleio to Mandara Skiathos. Meticulous presentation, excellent fish.
Chef Niko Vrettos cooking high-end Greek and Mediterranean from an open kitchen in the heart of the old town. One of the best-rated dining rooms in Skiathos.
Family-run for over thirty years at the highest point of the Old Port steps, under huge plane trees. Wonderful setting, genuinely uneven service record.
Creative modern Greek cooking in a walled garden courtyard on Evangelistrias Street. The island's most-discussed restaurant — adored by most, called overpriced by a vocal minority.
A quiet spot with big sea and island views and an unusually adventurous seafood menu — skate, monkfish, swordfish done properly. Consistency is the question mark.
A side-alley souvlaki counter that has been running for over two decades and is widely held to make the best gyros pita in Skiathos. Fast, cheap, excellent.
A newer seaside taverna right on the Old Port, serving fresh fish, grilled meats and mezedes by the harbour. Promising, with some service wrinkles still being ironed out.
A family taverna on the side street opposite the National Bank, with garden dining or an air-conditioned room — and a genuinely modern commercial setup behind it.
On the pine-covered peninsula that splits the two harbours, on the site of the old fort. Unbeatable position and sunsets; service is the recurring gamble.
A busy, buzzy seafront taverna on the waterfront with terrace seating over the port. Great location and generous plates; service is the weak link when it gets busy.
Three steps from the new port, convenient and reasonably priced. Pizza opinion is genuinely split — some call it the best in the new port, others are unkind.
A sisters-run bakery in the heart of the old town selling traditional Greek and specifically Skiathitian baking. The pistachio baklava is the reason to stop.
A seaside taverna overlooking the old port with superb views and genuinely divided opinion about everything else. Included for completeness and honesty.

Frequently asked questions
How many restaurants are there in Skiathos Town?
Tripadvisor lists between 184 and 299 depending on the category page, but the great majority are seasonal cafés, bars and kiosks with no meaningful dining record. We profile 43 with a kitchen, a reputation and enough published review history to assess honestly.
Where do locals eat in Skiathos Town?
Taverna To Kalo Pigadi, a tsipouradiko listed by the Greek Gastronomy Guide as a long-standing local favourite, and Mesogia Taverna in Plakes, family-run since 1923 and repeatedly described in reviews as popular with locals. Both charge taverna prices for cooking that outclasses much of the harbourfront.
