Agnadio in full
Agnadio sits on the hillside on the road up towards the Evangelistria monastery, high enough that the whole of Skiathos Town lays itself out below you — the tiled roofs, the two harbours, the Bourtzi headland pushing out into the water, and on a clear evening the smudged outlines of Skopelos and the far Sporades. Planes drop in over Pounta Bay towards the runway while you eat, which sounds like it should be a nuisance and is in fact half the entertainment.
What separates it from the other view restaurants is that the kitchen is not coasting. The menu is recognisably Greek — this is a taverna, not a reinvention of one — but the execution is a notch above the harbourfront average. Feta baked with fig jam is the dish reviewers write home about, a salty-sweet opener that has become the restaurant's calling card. The slow-cooked lamb falls off the bone properly rather than in the tough, reheated way that afflicts a lot of island kleftiko. Shrimp saganaki arrives bubbling and generously stocked rather than being mostly sauce.
Service is the other reason for the ratings. Staff are attentive without hovering, and there is a family-run steadiness to the place that shows on a busy August night when lesser kitchens fall apart. The outdoor terrace is where you want to be, and it fills — this is the single most reservation-dependent restaurant on this list in high season.
The one honest caveat: it is up a hill. Walkable from town if you are fit and unhurried, but most people take a taxi or drive, and the road is narrow. Book a table on the terrace edge specifically, or you will spend the evening looking at the back of someone else's chair instead of at the view you came for.
