The Attikon open-air cinema

A Greek summer institution still running in the middle of town — and the obvious answer to 'one evening that isn't a bar'.

What it is

An open-air cinema opened in 1962, on Papadiamantis Street in the heart of Skiathos Town, and still operating. Seasonal, as all Greek open-air cinemas are — roughly May to September — screening around three films a week.

The Greek therinos kinimatografos is one of the genuinely lovely things about a Mediterranean summer: a walled garden, folding chairs, a bar, jasmine, and a film starting when it gets properly dark. It is worth an evening on its own terms, not as a fallback.

Mamma Mia! screenings are the obvious draw here and reportedly sell out.

Practicalities

Booking is done by messaging the cinema's Facebook or Instagram page with your date, time and party size; a WhatsApp number and email are on the Instagram profile. For popular screenings, book well ahead.

Timing is the usual Greek pattern — doors around 20:00, screening starting around 21:30 once it is dark. Both are approximate and shift with the sunset through the season; our sunset times page will tell you when dark actually falls on your date.

On the ticket price, be sceptical of what you read — including elsewhere. One widely-scraped listing claims €20 for an adult. That is far above the Greek norm for an open-air cinema, and it comes from a low-quality automated travel aggregator. Other sources cluster at €8–10, and around €5 for children's films. We are not printing a figure as fact; expect single figures and check when you book.

Films in Greece are generally shown in their original language with Greek subtitles, which means English-language films play in English. That is standard practice rather than something we could confirm for this venue specifically.
