3-day itinerary · Bus and boat, no car required
A long weekend on Skiathos, done on the bus and the boat. Day one is the town on foot, day two the south coast by bus, day three the north coast by sea. No car is needed on any of the three days, and each bus journey costs €2 to €3.

Land, drop bags, and walk. The waterfront promenade from the new port past the Bourtzi to the old port is flat and takes twenty minutes at a stroll. Do the Bourtzi peninsula for the harbour view, then the Papadiamantis house, then Trion Ierarchon church — which holds the island's patron icon. Eat in town. If you want the aircraft, the runway threshold is an eight-minute walk from stop 0.
Bus from stop 0 towards Koukounaries. Get off wherever the water looks right: Vromolimnos around stops 13–14, Agia Paraskevi at 16, Maratha at 22, Koukounaries at the 26 terminus. Banana is a 5–10 minute walk over the headland from the terminus. Come back before the 5pm crush or accept standing.
A round-island boat from the old port: the sea caves, Kastro from the water, and a stop at Lalaria. Six to eight hours and the only way to see the half of the island that has no road. Then a last dinner at the old port.
A long weekend. One town day, one beach day, one boat day — no car needed. First-time visitors on a short break, and anyone connecting through Skiathos to Skopelos or Alonnisos.
No. This itinerary is built around the bus, which serves every south-coast beach for €2–3, and the boat trips that leave from the Old Port. A car is only worth hiring for the northern half of the island, and then usually for a single day.

Most guides tell you July and August. Those are the hottest, busiest and most expensive months, which is not the same thing as the best.

Half of Skiathos has no road on it, and the island itself is reached by sea or by air and nothing else.

Half the island has no road on it. That half holds a medieval capital, three sea caves and a white pebble beach with no way in but the sea.
